A Bloody Warrior
“Who is this that cometh from Edom with dyed garments from Bozrah” Is. 63:1
Bozrah (fortress) was a city in Edom. Edom was the land inhabited by the descendants of Esau. Esau is clearly a picture of everything which is at enmity with God. The Lord Jesus Christ came into the world to set the captives free. The gates of hell could not prevail against Him. He invaded the fortress of Satan to deliver His people.
Isaiah 63 is a glorious picture of a warrior coming home from battle. He is covered in His own blood, but He is not dragging His sword, exhausted or struggling to put one foot before the other. Oh no, He is declaring to His kinsmen, “It is finished”. I have single handedly defeated the enemy. Your warfare is accomplished. Your adversary has been conquered. The law has been fulfilled. Justice has been satisfied. The grave has lost its power. Death is swallowed up in victory. Thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through Jesus Christ our Lord.
