No mercy without justice
“Mercy and truth are met together, righteousness and peace have kissed each other”. Ps. 85.10
Holy justice demands every sin be punished to the fullest extent of the law. “He will by no means clear the guilty.” Ex. 34:7. What does the law require? Death!
So where has the truth of Divine Justice met with mercy? Where has righteousness and peace kissed? How can God be just and at the same time justify guilty sinners? Only at the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ. “For He (Father) hath made Him (Son) sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in Him.” II Cor. 5:21.
We have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. When did this peace happen? Notice the verb tense in our text (Ps. 85:10) Are and Have. Those are past tense verbs. All for whom Christ died were justified by His death on Calvary’s Cross. How do I know if He died for me? Only those for whom Christ died will trust Him alone for all the hope of their salvation.
